Deutsche Bank Festival of Creative Arts [Spring Festival]

There is a large number of skilled people on the island, and we aim to encourage as many as possible to enter their particular art or craft in the Jersey Eisteddfod for the enjoyment of others in the community. Entrants have the opportunity of having their work appraised by Adjudicators from England and can often gain valuable information from this. The Festival held in March each year, is truly well worth a visit to see the wide variety of arts and crafts produced in our community.

For further information contact: Mrs Christine Hamon Tel: 01534 854529. E-Mail: admin@jerseyeisteddfod.org.je

4.5 Adult & Youth Art and Craft

One of the paintings entered in the
Adult Art Section

CHAIRMAN: Mr Ian Sperry.
SECRETARY: Mrs Judy Gardener,
E-Mail:jude.gardener@tesco.net

Open to all age groups, from 5 years of age to under 18 in the Youth Section and upwards from 18 years of age in the Adult Section.

There are a  wide range of classes, from Oils and Watercolours through to Etchings and Calligraphy with new classes being added from time to time according to demand. The Crafts Section covers a much more diverse range of skills with such classes as Ceramics and Pottery, Glass Engraving, China Painting, Woodcarving, Woodturning and General Woodcraft to name but a few. Trophies are awarded by the Adjudicators each year for outstanding achievements, four for the Art Section, three for Crafts and another for a given Theme which entrants may wish to enter their work in. Generally, entries can be on any subject but some entrants prefer the extra challenge of working on the particular Theme chosen by the Committee each year.

The Syllabus/Entry Forms are available now on this Website and also will be available from the Arts Centre, WHSmith and Waterstones in the Autumn, allowing plenty of time for entrants to work on their pieces.

Our Adjudicators are usually from the UK and are highly regarded in their field. Adjudicating these Sections is an unenviable task especially when it involves judging such a wide variety of skills, but they accomplish this well as their broad knowledge of the subject has shown.

The Art & Crafts Section Committee work well as a team to make sure everything runs smoothly and give of their time during the Exhibition by stewarding etc. We would welcome anyone who may be interested in joining us either as a Steward or Committee member.  Our Secretary, Mrs Judy Gardener would be happy to talk to you. Tel: 743383 for further details.

The winning images from the 2008 Deutsche Bank Festival of Creative Arts, together with a cross-section of the strong entry, were exhibited at the Jersey Opera House during the Autumn Festival.

The Adjudicator for 2010 will be Mr Peter Paterson ARPS, EFIAP, DPAGB

In the hope of encouraging entries from people who have not considered submitting photographs before, there will, again, be an award for the 'Best Newcomer' to be judged over all five classes. All that is necessary to be considered for this award is to indicate on your entry form that you are entering the Photography Section for the first time.

In recent years we have been pleased to receive entries from some of the Island's schools and that is something that the Section would like to encourage. There is a trophy for the 'Best Student Entry' also judged across all five classes.
