THE JERSEY EISTEDDFOD VALERIE GUY BURSARY

SUPPORTING THE ISLAND’S ARTISTIC TALENT

The 2025/26 Jersey Eisteddfod Valerie Guy Bursary, has awarded grants totalling nearly £12,500 to local artists, performers and creators.

Named in honour of the late Mrs. Valerie Todd – known to everyone as Miss Guy – the Bursary is made possible through her generous bequests and legacies to the Jersey Eisteddfod.

The Bursary provides financial assistance to individuals seeking to further their development in one of the many disciplines featured in the Festival of the Creative Arts or the Festival of the Performing Arts.

For each Bursary round, the Jersey Eisteddfod Executive Council agrees a total amount that should be made available for individual applications, which can be for any amount between £100 and £1,000, helping to fund training, tuition, travel, equipment, and more.

The Bursary is open to anyone who has competed in one of the preceding Jersey Eisteddfod festivals in the year of application, with no age restrictions.

Requests for support are considered by a panel consisting of members of the Jersey Eisteddfod Executive Council and independent judges.

Pat Sabey, Chair of the Jersey Eisteddfod said, “The Bursary, now in its second year, attracted a high number of applicants from many different disciplines and of all ages, enabling them to pursue their creative dreams.

“Our objective in making this bursary available is in keeping with our Constitution, to support and promote the artistic and creative talent that is in abundance in our Island. We are also determined to honour Valerie Guy’s lifetime devotion and commitment to the arts in Jersey. I think she would be proud of what we are doing with her generous bequest to the charity.”

Supporting the Next Generation of Eisteddfod Ambassadors

Recipients of the Bursary will also be invited to become Jersey Eisteddfod Ambassadors during the year in which they receive the award. This provides a unique opportunity for successful applicants to share their experiences and inspire the next generation of Jersey’s artistic talent.
